Food

"It's what's for dinner!"

Admittedly this page will mostly be of interest to those of you in and around Lawrence, KS because that's where I have the most first-hand experience with restaurants, but don't stop reading just yet. I also plan to include some recipes and other personal favorites of the non-local variety.

Favorites

Before we get to Lawrence, I have to mention my all-time favorite restaurant, the Cock and Bull in Galway, NY. Rustic atmosphere with top-notch food; it doesn't get much better than that. The menu isn't fancy, but has the four main food-groups well covered (Beef, Pork, Fish, and Poultry). Servings are large and it's cooked to perfection every time. Menu selections: Rumaki (marinated chicken liver wrapped in bacon) appetizer, beef & barleysoup, 18oz ribeye, any dessert, they're all good, and by the way, kudos to you if you eat your whole meal and still have room for one.

Jack's Stack, Kansas City, MO. This is the only place I am going to recommend without having been there in person, however I have had their baked beans and lets just say that they are in a class by themselves. Other than that, it's Kansas City barbeque and comes very highly recommended by all accounts. I really need to get over there one of these days.

Local

I'm just going to list these alphabetically. They are all different so trying to list them in order of preference would be to difficult.

75th Street Brewery. A micro-brew with an excellent porter. $1.50 beer specials on Wednesday nights.

Limerance, a quiet little bar, except for Friday nights when the live music and salsa dancing attract quite a crowd. My favorite is $1 Shiner Bocks on Tuesdays. It's over next to the Movie Gallery at the corner of Bob Billings and Wakarusa.

Molly McGee's on Iowa a couple blocks south of campus. The best burgers in town, and they're 1/2 price on Wednesdays. I reccomend the Boradwalk burger: 1/2 lb beef patty cooked to order, monterey jack cheese, bacon, pineapple ring, lettuce, onion, and toasted bun. The beer-battered onion rings are enormouse and excellent as well.

Odessa. Soul food. Yum. Unfortunately now out of business (Fall, 2005)

Chains

The Longhorn Steakhouse.

Recipes

These are all things I make (No, not all THE things I make). Some I have modified in some way that I think is unique, and some are just particularly good recipes. Just to be clear, I'm not making any claim to authorship on these and will try to give credit where it's due.
